Har tidigare skrivit om Byn Mbazzi i Uganda där Paul Kiguba och Global profil tänkte börja ett byutvecklingsprojekt med hjälp av artiklar om odling och annat som man behöver genom Lugandiska Wikipedia. Genom projektet Wikipedia zero så får man möjlighet att surfa in på Wikipedia kostnadsfritt.
Wikipedia fungerar bara på smartphones så att läsa det på den gamla typen av mobiler kommer inte att gå. Vi har också pratat om att vi i projektet skall förse fem familjer med datorer som går att ladda med solenergi. Kanske skulle det vara bättre att satsa på läsplattor med mobilabbonemang? Då skulle det inte bli så dyrt men ändå kan man läsa Wikipedia artiklar tydligt.
Sen är det inte bara odling som man kan skriva om. TASO heter en organisation som hjälper HIV/AIDS sjuka i Uganda. De gör ofta besök ute i byarna för att se om någon behöver hjälp. Genom Lugandiska Wikipedia skulle de kunna nå ut med sin information till många fler än nu!
Allmän hälsoinformation är sådant som också kan läggas ut via Wikipedia. Kanske skulle vi i projektet försöka att samarbeta med röda korset?

Village development through Wikipedia!!! What a great step! I am seeing a whole new world created. Another use of the popular mobile phone. The mobile phone can be a very important tool in community development. In the near future, I can see Luganda speakers reaching out for their mobile phones to look up what they need!!!! I think I can contact the Luganda Department at Makerere University……A new Luganda Dictionary was launched recently……..They could post it on Wikipedia for the World to access it. Maybe Luganda will no longer be called a small language!!!!!
In Uganda, People may miss news and other communications on radio,Television, newspapers etc but they cannot fail to be with their mobile phones. This implies that they are in touch with the e-world seven days a week and almost 24 hours a day. Therefore,knowledge can be passed on anytime and villagers can access it. At Mbazzi Village,Smart phones are very very rare. I doubt if any villager there has a smart phone!! What is that Mobile abbonemang that you talked of? How does it work? What is its cost in US Dollars? The option of solar energy is a great suggestion. Sunshine is one of the most abundant commodities in Mbazzi Village. Getting more benefits from the sun is a very sustainable undertaking. I look forward to this steady unfolding of a BIG DREAM!!!!
